About happy kaomoji

Happy kaomoji are the faces people reach for when a message needs a smile that plain words cannot carry. Unlike round emoji, they are drawn with letters, punctuation and a few Japanese symbols, so they look hand-made and feel a little more personal. The ones on this page lean on a few simple ideas: curved mouths such as ‿ and ◡ for smiles, tightly closed eyes like ≧ and ≦ for joy, and small extras such as flowers or raised arms for extra cheer.

Pick one by how loud the mood is. For a quiet “good morning”, a gentle (◕‿◕) or (^◡^) does the job. For good news, go with arms up, such as \(≧▽≦)/. If you are posting somewhere that blocks fancy symbols, the plain-text faces, ^_^ and (^_^), travel almost anywhere.

Every face shows which apps it is likely to work on and how many characters it uses, so you know it fits a Discord nickname or an Instagram bio before you paste it. If a face ever appears as an empty box on an older phone, that device simply lacks one of the symbols. Choose another from the list.

Questions

How do I copy a happy kaomoji on my phone?

Tap the face. It is copied straight away and a small “Copied” message appears. Then open any app, press and hold in the text box and choose Paste.

Why does a kaomoji show up as a box?

A box, often called tofu, appears when the device’s font does not contain one of the symbols. It is the phone, not the kaomoji. Faces made of plain letters and punctuation almost never do this, and faces that use rarer symbols carry a small “!” in the corner.

Can I use them in a Discord name or message?

Yes. Discord nicknames can be up to 32 characters. In a chat message, a backslash or underscore can vanish because Discord reads it as formatting. Turn on Discord-safe copy and the missing backslashes are added for you.
